Digistamps4Joy Blog Hop: 5-11 October 2013

You have arrived at Margy’s blog in PRETORIA, South Africa!

Welcome to the Digistamps4Joy Blog Hop to celebrate WORLD CARDMAKING DAY,
and running from 5 - 11 October 2013. DS4J has chosen the theme "COUNTRY" to celebrate what we love about our own country.
This is my beautiful city in spring time with the flowering Jacaranda trees.

If you landed on my page first, then just carry on down the list, and from the top again till you are back at my blog OR start at the top at the main Digistamps4Joy blog, and work your way though to the final stop (Ursula’s blog). The hop order is indicated on each blog, so you will not ‘get lost’!

Here is the card I am showcasing for the hop, and I used "Mommy's girl".
I coloured it in with watercolour pencils and OMS, and drew in a savanna scene behind them. The paper behind the sentiment (a gold rub-on) is a piece of handmade paper with rhino dung in it! My reason for choosing this digistamp is because I love rhinos, and am appalled at the massacre currently being carried out in my own country, and I hope I can raise awareness though my card. Here are some facts from the Save the Rhino website....
  1. South Africa is home to 83% of Africa’s rhinos and 73% of all wild rhinos worldwide and is an incredibly important country for rhino conservation. However rhino poaching has reached a crisis point, and if the killing continues at this rate, we could see rhino deaths overtaking births in 2016-2018, meaning rhinos could go extinct in the very near future!
  2. The figure for 2013 currently stands at 688 rhinos that have been poached in South Africa, which works out to almost 2 per day! The current poaching crisis is attributed to the growing demand for rhino horn in Asian countries, mainly China and Vietnam, where horn is believed to have medicinal properties.
Each blog in the hop is offering a prize of ONE digistamp, and each DT member has made a card with this digi to showcase the prize. The main DS4J blog is offering a fantastic prize of $30 worth of digistamps from the DS4J store
The PRIZE on this Blog is the digistamp "Mommy's girl"

  3. Oh Margy, this card is stunning. I just love that gorgeous background that you drew in...any chance on that getting made into a digital? I too fear for the fate of the rhino and all of the other animals on this planet as humans seem to be intent on eradicating them. Your rhino image is such an incredible tribute so such noble animals...and I have to ask...wherever did you get paper with rhino dung in it? Hugs ~ Charlene

  4. Margy your card is a work of art, and thank you so much for the hard work you do for us girls, not just the hop but always, you are the best, and I love being part of such a lovely family

Hugs and much love Alex x

    greetings karin

  7. I truly hope your card raises some awareness. my dad used to say, "you never now how much you will miss something until it's gone. let's hope it does not come to that. Fabulous card. And BTW, I adore Jacaranda's, my all time fave tree. Can't grow them here, but we see them in Cyprus in May, what wonderful colour. Jackie xx

  8. Let me first say Margy...your picture of the city is amazing!! Also I had no idea that Rhino's were being slaughtered so much!! That is just pure evil..they are so cute..and this should not happen to ANY animal!!

    Anyway...I love your card..so sweet!!

  9. Im so turned around and dont even know how I did that. I told Karin what I wanted to tell you...lol.. oh well any ways thank you for putting together a super fun blog hop! I love the beautiful photo of you COUNTRY! Such a touching gorgeous card you have put together!

  10. Margy, you are one super talented artistic lady. I must tell you how much I just love those Jacaranda trees, I must go visit your fabulous Country. Thanks so much for all that you do for the team. The beauty of this image is simply magnificent.

  11. I love the rhinos. They are fantastic animals. I like the soft background. It makes you notice the rhinos more. that is a great sentiment to use. Never thought of using just Special on things. Thanks for sharing. I am a follower of your blog. Edwina Brown edwinabrown@comcast.net

  12. This is a beautiful card layout - it is very attractive card - love the scenic view! thanks for the hop! Enjoy your week!

  13. That's a great card for raising awareness. So sad that they would be close to extinction!!!

  14. Can I plant that Jaracanda tree on my lawn? Is it huge? The flowers look so amazing; I wonder how it looks like up close? Must be so pretty. I don't understand why some nerds kill rhinos just because. They never attack people unless they are being disturbed. These people are killing the ecology system and destroying the planet. I am proud to see your work to raise awareness; good cause indeed, congrats. I am enjoying this hop Margy, thank you so much for all the effort and hard work you do for us all.

  15. Beautiful card! Love the coloring. I cant wait to see what's next on the hop!

  20. Hello Margy, what a beautiful part of the world you live in. My youngest son loves Rhinoceros since he was a little boy, he is nearly 21. When we took him to his first fun fair and spent all day asking for a handle, we worked out it was a Rhino and he walked around holding its tusk which was the handle according to him. I love your card so beautiful, crafty hugs Julie x
